Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises is headed to a real city called Gotham for two weeks of shooting starting on October 29th.  Cast member report that they have been briefed that shooting may take place in areas where the Occupy Wall Street protests are taking place.  The Dark Knight Rises has been shooting at locations all over the world including India, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles.

At this point there is no telling how or even if the real protests will figure in the plot of The Dark Knight Rises, but the L.A. Times reports that the casting call for the Dark Knight Rises’ NYC shoot indicates that the characters will inhabit a city “besieged by crime and corruption.”

Clearly DKR director Christopher Nolan and screenwriter David Goyer could not have foreseen the Occupy Wall Street protests when they were planning the film, but they are apparently ready to take advantage of real life events that echo the Batman trilogy’s themes of civil unrest and urban disorder.
