Julie Taymor, the former director of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has sued the producers, alleging that they continue to use her artistic contributions without paying her, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The suit follows Taymor’s arbitration claim for $500,000 in royalties (which has already been heard).
The big-budget Broadway musical has been financially successful despite less than stellar critical response (see “Spidey Musical Playing to Packed Houses”).  Taymor was pushed out after troubles during the previews, including several injuries to performers (see “Taymor Out as Spider-Man Director”).
The producers issued a statement in response to the suit, arguing that any debt has been paid, according to the Reporter.  “The production has indeed compensated Ms. Taymor for her contribution as a co-book writer.”
Despite the fact that she’s left the show, Taymor will still be eligible for a Tony for her direction, according to New York Magazine.
