Days of Wonder is releasing a new digital version of its popular Ticket to Ride board game.  This digital adaptation has been built specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  The app will sell for $0.99.

Ticket to Ride Pocket offers only the US map. It includes four AI players, and offers both a multi-player and solitaire modes.  Multi-player games can use “pass and play” on a single device, and a “local network” mode will allow players on different iOS devices to play together over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Online play will not be supported.

This version addresses specific issues for the smaller iOS devices, such as the small screen size and limited memory space.

The Ticket to Ride board game has sold two million copies worldwide.  An electronic version for the iPad has already been available, and sold 180,000 copies in the first five months after release.  Days of Wonders reports that over 25 million online games have been played.

Days of Wonder has been expanding the range of electronic versions of its board games.  In the past, electronic game sales have fed sales of the non-electronic version (see “15 Million Online ‘TTR’ Games”).
