Responding to the lawsuit filed by one-time director Julie Taymor (see “Spider-Man Musical Lawsuit”), the producers of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark fired back in federal court on Tuesday, filing a response and counterclaim against Taymor.  The producers say that the current script of the Broadway musical based on the Marvel character was written by others, and that “The show is a success despite Taymor, not because of her.”  They also allege that she did not cooperate in the rewrites needed to get the musical in shape to open after numerous problems during the long period during which the show was in previews.
The show continues to sell lots of tickets, but it’s an expensive production that’s going to take a long time to earn out unless it also starts playing in other cities.
