The most popular literary barbarian returns to the wildly popular satirical card game in this summer’s 168-card Munchkin: Conan core set.  Based on the works of Robert E. Howard, the new core set combines the themes and iconic style of the Conan stories with the wacky humor of the Munchkin game.  The set is based on the literary works, and quotes are used on the cards.  A Steve Jackson spokesperson told ICv2 at Toy Fair that the Munchkin Conan core set, which includes no duplicate cards, is “one of the most detailed sets we have ever done.”

This will be the first new core set to use the original Munchkin card backs, which will allow players to combine Munchkin: Conan with the core Munchkin set.

Munchkin: Conan was written by Steve Jackson and illustrated by fan-favorite John Kovalic. The suggested retail price will be $24.95.  The game will release in late summer.

A smaller 15-card Munchkin Conan the Barbarian booster pack expansion was released in 2011 (see “Conan in ‘Munchkin’”).  The booster set was based on the Conan movie.  The new core set does not include any of the cards from the Munchkin: Conan the Barbarian booster pack expansion.
