The producers of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark have reached a partial settlement with director Julie Taymor, according to the New York Times.  The dispute with Taymor originated when she was pushed out of the production as it was retooling prior to opening.  That dispute was ongoing as both a union dispute and a case in federal court (see “’Spider-Man Producers Fire Back”).  This settlement applies only to the union dispute, although it seems that a settlement of the court case is also likely.  Taymor’s credit was recently restored to the musical’s Website.
The settlement provides that Taymor will receive $9750 a week as long as the Broadway production is open, and will receive undisclosed payments for road company productions.  Taymor agreed to defer her $4,000 a week collaborator royalty until after the show recoups its initial $75M investment several years from now.
The federal court case relates to Taymor’s role as creator of the musical and as one of the scriptwriters.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is one of Broadway’s most successful shows, grossing around $1.3 million per week.
