In a move designed to address the underperformance of its U.S. and Canada segments, Hasbro, the nation’s second largest toymaker, announced that it was cutting its workforce by 170 with the majority of the cuts coming from the company’s North American workforce.  The cuts amount to a small percentage of the company’s global workforce of 5,900.  Fifty-five of the layoffs were in Rhode Island where Hasbro is headquartered and according to the WPRI.com, employs 1400.  Two decades ago in 1993 Hasbro employed 12,500 worldwide, with 8,000 in the U.S. alone.  Whether this round of layoffs will touch Wizards of the Coast is not known at this time.
