ComiXology has announced a new format for digital comics, CMX-HD, utilizing higher resolution images designed to take advantage of the Retina display in the new iPad.  A select group of comics and graphic novels will be available in the new format at launch, with plans to make the entire comiXology catalogue available over the coming months.  The new content will be available as a free upgrade for fans that purchased comics in the previous format, and at the same price as the old format for new purchases.
The new version of comiXology’s Comics iOS application also incorporates Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail sharing, the ability to begin reading before downloading is complete, and bug fixes and stability improvements.
New comiXology CTO Marc Goldberg, who joined the company from Epix earlier this month, managed the transition.  Goldberg replaced former CTO and comiXology co-founder John Roberts, who moved to Publisher and Creator and Services.

Disclosure: ICv2 has a business relationship with comiXology as a representative for its Retailer Tools; ICv2 CEO Milton Griepp also serves on the board of comiXology.
