Calliope Games has announced plans to release a new version of its award winning Tsuro game in August.  Entitled Tsuro of the Seas, this version offers a more thematic experience and introduces new mechanics to the game system.

Callipe President Ray Wehrs introduced ICv2 to the concept: "The Emperor of Japan has sent you on a mission to tell the world that he owns the lands and the waters as far as you can see."

The players are captains of sea-going ships that must navigate across the game board, while avoiding the monsters that lurk there.

Wehrs explained: "The daikaiju (monsters) are going to move randomly on the board.  So, not only are you playing the board, but you’re playing your opponents too.  Any time a daikaiju hits a tile, another daikaiju, or a ship, it takes it out of the game."

Movement of the sea monsters is controlled through the use of two dice, adding another random element to the game.  Besides the introduction of sea monsters, other changes in this version of Tsuro are that it’s played on a larger board grid, and includes a larger deck of playing tiles.

Scheduled to release in August, Tsuro of the Seas will have a suggested retail price of $40.
