Dixit: Journey was specifically designed to be more accessible to a broader audience, and will be sold in at least one mass merchant, Asmodee Executive Manager Christophe Arnoult told ICv2.

Releasing in June, Dixit: Journey will be a mass market-accessible version of the award winning Dixit game (see "'Dixit: Journey'"), which will be made available both to hobby retailers and mass-market giant Target.  Arnoult explained the relationship between the two games.

"It is the same rules, but we changed the artist to get some pictures that were more family, more cartoon, more accessible for everybody.  We worked on the rules to make a lot of examples to explain.  It’s a simple game, but we know that when you go to the mass market, you touch other customers that don’t play a lot of board games, so you have to simplify how you explain the rules."

Arnoult stressed Asmodee’s policy of support for hobby retailers.  "Last year, Target wanted to carry Dixit, and we said no because we wanted to be fair to the small stores," he said. [Dixit: Journeys] will be available for Target and for the small store. Of course, we have to make business sometimes with the big guy, but I think our best customer is the small retail store so we have to be fair and protect them.  We always try to find how we can do the best for us and the small retail store."

Dixit: Journeys will include a few cards from the earlier Dixit expansion, so fans of the new game will be made aware of the original game, which will continue to be available only to hobby stores.  The new version will be compatible with the original and its expansions.
