Publishing powerhouse Simon & Schuster has settled a complaint filed by a group of state attorneys general that accused five major publishers and Apple of conspiring to raise prices on e-books.  The Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins had previously settled their portion of the suit brought by the states’ attorneys general, and Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and HarperCollins had also previously settled parallel complaints brought by the Department of Justice (see "DOJ Files Antitrust Suit in E-Book Pricing Case").

 

Still denying wrongdoing and refusing to settle either the DOJ’s suit or that brought by the States’ attorneys general are Apple and two major mainstream publishers, Penguin and Macmillan.
