Production I.G., the topflight anime studio responsible for Ghost in the Shell, is in the process of creating an anime featuring the character of Snake Plissken, the tough guy hero of Escape From New York and Escape From L.A.  As is currently the case with the Animatrix, the Snake Plissken anime is based on a blockbuster Hollywood film and produced in conjunction with a Hollywood studio.  If all goes well the anime should be released in 2005.

Meanwhile Snake Plissken is returning in his own comic book series from Hurricane Entertainment and CrossGen (see 'CrossGen Lands Snake Plissken Comic').  Although the Snake Plissken comic, which was previewed at last year's San Diego ComiCon, is not out yet, it should hit retail well before the Production I.G. anime debuts in 2005.  Like the Animatrix , .hack//SIGN, and other modern multi-media projects, the Snake Plissken comics and anime will tell different portions of the Snake Plissken saga.  The comic series begins the day after the end of Escape From New York, while the anime will take place in the aftermath of Escape From L.A.
