Comic-Con News:  Sometimes it takes awhile for the "Comic-Con Effect" to take hold.  Michael Bassett’s epic historical film of Robert E. Howard’s Solomon Kane, was shown at Comic-Con in 2009, but hasn’t been able to secure a release until now.  Today it was announced that the movie, which stars James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Rachel Hurd-Ward, and the late Pete Postlethwaite, will get its U.S. theatrical debut on September 28th.

Ordinarily when the release of a film is delayed it is a prime indication that the movie is a real stinker, but that is certainly not necessarily the case when it comes to foreign films, like this savage saga of Howard’s Puritan Avenger, which was produced (in English) by a consortium of French, Czech, and British companies.  This $40 million production was filmed in the Czech Republic and has been released in Europe and in the U.K. where it received an excellent 82% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

From the looks of this trailer, Robert E. Howard fans will want to check out Solomon Kane, which also hits video-on-demand on August 24th.
