Comic-Con News:  Hermes Press announced at Comic-Con that it is partnering with Famous Monsters of Filmland, the highly influential magazine that thousands of "monster kids"--including the likes of Stephen King, John Landis and Steven Spielberg--grew up reading.

 

Beginning in early 2013, Hermes will reprint the original run of Famous Monsters issues (1-191) in a series of hardcover collections.  Each collection will contain three to five issues and will be completely restored and, in some cases, digitally rebuilt from the ground up.  In addition, Hermes is set to publish a line of art books celebrating the history of the magazine, which was launched in 1958 by publisher James Warren and editor Forrest J Ackerman.

 

"I have always been a fan of Famous Monsters of Filmland, whether it be the fantastic covers, the fascinating articles or the magazine in general," Hermes publisher Dan Herman said.  "Now we have the privilege--a fantastic opportunity--to do archival preserves of not only the magazine from its beginning, but to create art books commemorating the publication itself."

 

Famous Monsters has a convoluted publishing history, but the magazine was resurrected by comics publisher IDW in July, 2010 with the release of issue #251 (see "IDW to Revive 'Famous Monsters of Filmland'") and is still being published today.
