CrossGen Entertainment sent out a press release today announcing that after the publication of Red Star Vol. 2 #2, Team Red Star will leave the CGE imprint and continue to publish the Red Star comic through its own Archangel Studios.  After a stint with Image Comics, Team Red Star was the first independent studio to sign up with CrossGen (see 'CrossGen Launches Two New Imprints') last June.  So far CrossGen has published Red Star Vol. 2 #1, which came out in February.  Issue #2 will also come out under the CrossGen imprint, but Archangel Studios will publish #3, and Archangel will collect all the issues from Vol. 2 and publish the trade paperback collection.

The parting appears to be amicable on both sides.  Archangel's Christian Gossett noted, '...our relationship grew more from mutual admiration than from any underlying business need.' In an interview published on the Comic Book Resources website, Gossett explained that CrossGen's expertise in licensing and dealing with all the ancillary elements of publishing might be of great help to many creators, but that he felt that these were tasks that he could accomplish on his own.  Gossett also remarked that the goals of his studio were different from those at CrossGen, which is striving to become the largest American comic book publisher.  For its part CrossGen noted that retailers should 'stay tuned for upcoming announcements concerning new partners who might be stepping into the space now made available for additional publishing at CGE.'
