According to today's Hollywood Reporter, Paramount is planning a live action version of Peter Chung's stylish animated series Aeon Flux, which ran on MTV during the 1990s. Chung, whose more recent work Reign The Conqueror has been playing on the Cartoon Network (see 'Cartoon Network Adds Three New Anime Series'), has a very recognizable style whether dealing with an elliptical futuristic storyline (Aeon Flux) or the distant pre-Roman past (Reign). It should be interesting to see whether the director chosen for the live action Aeon Flux, Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), manages to capture Chung's edgy cyberpunk visual style. Thanks to its prime spot on MTV, Aeon Flux was one of the first successful examples of the use of an 'anime-like' style in the American mainstream media, while Reign the Conqueror is one of the most distinctive and interesting anime offerings of the current season (see 'Tokyopop Has Alexander The Great Anime').
