Archie Comics has announced that it will launch a new ongoing comic title around the question: "What if the zombie apocalypse began in Riverdale?"  The new series, Afterlife with Archie, will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the sometime TV/movie/Broadway writer (see "Bloody 'Carrie' Teaser Trailer") who just did a Glee story arc for the regular Archie ongoing series (see "'Glee' Storyline in Archie"). 

Two story arcs are planned so far: "Escape from Riverdale," and "Betty RIP."

Aguirre-Sacasa described how the series came about.  "This series came out of conversations with Jon [Goldwater], asking questions like, 'what if the Archie characters found themselves in a Stephen King novel like The Stand or a Sam Raimi movie like The Evil Dead?,'" he said.  "Could we pull that off, tonally?  We’re really going for it."
