Finally there is some good news to report on the DC Comics film front.  Variety announced that David Goyer, the writer responsible for the 'relatively low-cost and high grossing' Blade films for New Line Cinema, has been tapped to write the screenplay for the new Batman film, which will be directed by Christopher Nolan (see 'Memento Helmer To Direct Batman').  Goyer, who has had considerable experience actually writing comics (for DC primarily), has a real feel for superhero material and can be counted on to come up with something that is taut and compelling in contrast to the flaccid yawnfests that marked the end of the last cycle of Warner Brothers' Batman films.

Another very positive indication about the new Batman film is the fact that Goyer will be working on a story concept devised by Christopher Nolan himself.  If Nolan can pack half the ingenuity of Memento into his Batman film, it will be the cleverest, most arresting superhero film yet.  This project is still a long way from the screen, but with an experienced proven writer and a brilliant, innovative director, this Batman film could be worth waiting for.
