Playroom Entertainment (Killer Bunnies) has announced a July Comic-Con release for Geek Out (MSRP $20.00), a new party game for pop culture mavens.  Playroom’s Dan Rowen explained to ICv2 that "the object of the game is to ‘out geek’ your friends by demonstrating more depth of pop culture knowledge."  The game will include 1000 topics drawn from five different categories, comics, science fiction, fantasy, games, and miscellaneous.

As Rowen explained, "Say the question is to list three female comicbook superheroes.  Before the first person gets a chance to do that, the next person in order says ‘I can list five,’ but the next person might say I can do eight, and it goes on like that until everybody has had a chance to ‘bid’ on the number.  If the person with the highest number is able to produce the list equal to their boast, then they get the card, but if they are bluffing or can’t deliver on their promise, they lose points."

The San Diego debut of the game on July 15th makes perfect sense according to Rowen because "all the questions really tie into this industry, whether it’s the number of DC sidekicks you can name, or members of the faculty at Hogwarts, or Streetfighter characters, or the number of Yoda quotes you can recall."  The best thing about Geek Out according to Rowen is the way it creates a lot of conversations and really gets everyone involved.  "It’s a true party game," Rowen told ICv2, "There’s no set number of participants.  It’s just a matter of how many people you can fit in a room.  Everyone can play."
