Mayfair Games has announced two summer board game releases: Bill Crenshaw’s Global Mogul, and a reprint of the sold out The Fall of Pompeii.
Global Mogul is a limited action, worker placement, resource acquisition, and opportunity management game. Players build their empire by balancing short term goals of contract fulfillment for cash with the long term strategy of building corporate infrastructure, controlling markets, and regional expansion. The game is suited for two to four players, ages 14 and up, and plays in around 120 minutes. Global Mogul releases in July 2013.
The Fall of Pompeii is designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, best known as the creator of Carcasonne. Set in 79 A.D. in the Greek city of Pompeii, this historical board game initially asks players to attract their Roman friends to the city to visit select sites. But then, once the dreaded Vesuvius card is played, the volcano will erupt, and play turns to the struggle to avoid the lava flows and get your compatriots out alive. Whoever leads the most survivors to safety wins. The game can be played with two to four players, ages 10 and up, and plays in about 45 minutes. Mayfair has updated the game to include a new "Dual Vent" variant to go with the three dual vent tiles. The Fall of Pompeii releases in August 2013.
