Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson role has been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the studio confirmed in a statement today.
Director Marc Webb told Deadline, "I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her." (See "Shailene Woodley to Play Mary Jane Watson" and "'Spider-Man' Sequel Built Around the Death of Gwen Stacy" for background.)
There is no confirmation if those "few scenes" will be used in the third installment of the Spidey franchise confirmed recently (see "Dates Set for Two More 'Spider-Man' Movies").
