Steve Jackson Games has announced the acquisition of the Haywire Group’s dice game: Chupacabra: Survive the Night. This is the first visible result of SJG’s announcement earlier this year that it was looking for acquisitions (see "Steve Jackson Seeks Acquisitions"). Chupacabra: Survive the Night will be re-released in November.
Designed by David Blanchard, Brian Frodema, and John Jacobsen, Chupacabra is a fast-playing dice game featuring 24 glow-in-the-dark, six-sided dice for up to four players (multiple sets can be added to support more players). The chupacabras rolled (represented by glowing eyes) can attack their opponents' herds and flocks, while any livestock rolled may be conversely attacked by enemy chupacabras. Typical games play in 10 – 20 minutes, the winner is the player who collects all the dice.
Based on the horror legend from Latin American folklore, the bloodsucking chupacabra is thought to attack livestock at night, and disappear without a trace. No credible description of the vampire-like beast exists, perhaps because those that witness its attacks don’t survive until morning to tell.
The game will be packaged like SJG’s Zombie Dice (a round, lidded, dice-cup inside a display blister pack), with an MSRP of $19.95.
