The stand-alone Star Wars features will be "origin story" films, according to Disney CFO Jay Rasulo during the company’s conference call last week, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.  Although it’s been known for a while that beginning with the first film in the new Star Wars trilogy in 2015, there will be Star Wars films every summer, with stand-alone films in between the trilogy films (see "'Star Wars' Movies Every Summer"), it wasn’t known that those films will tell characters’ origin stories.

It was rumored that the first stand-alone film would feature Yoda (see "Stand-alone 'Star Wars' Films"), which would fit as an origin story; but there’s no official word yet on what character(s) will be featured in the first stand-alone film.
