Alderac Entertainment has announced a new addition to its “Big in Japan” imprint, the card game Mai-Star for Fall 2013.
Designed by Seiji Kanai (Love Letter, Chronicle, and the forthcoming Cheaty Mages!, see "Cheaty Mages") is set amid the beauty and guile of the "Floating World" in feudal Japan. Players take the role of geisha and compete to earn the most prestigious title, by raising their character’s reputation and earning money from guests (or conversely, sabotaging their rivals) by playing different cards. There are three rounds (called festivals) and a festival is over when one player runs out of cards. Players who still have cards in their hand are assessed penalty points. The player who earns the most money after the three festivals is considered the most skillful geisha, and will win the title of Mai-Star.
The game is designed for 3 – 6 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in about 30 minutes. The box contains 6 geisha cards, 75 customer cards, score sheets and a rulebook. MSRP is set at $19.95.
