Uwe Rosenberg’s smash hit Agricola continues to find favor among gamers and the game press.  In November, Mayfair Games will begin distribution of a game with a slightly different take on the farming theme: Lookout Games’ Caverna: The Cave Farmers, also designed by Rosenberg.

In the new game, players take on the role of dwarven farmer-miners, trying to lead their family to success and prosperity by furnishing the family cave, mining ore to forge weapons, and clearing the nearby forest to make room for farming and a little animal husbandry.

Caverna shares some similarities with Agricola, but is designed completely differently.  It offers numerous new game systems and concepts, including questing, ruby mining, and two types of animals not included in the earlier game:  dogs and donkeys.  A solitaire version of the game is also included.

The game will include more than 300 wooden playing pieces, 60 acrylic “nuggets”, 30 cards, 16 game boards, and 400 tokens.  The suggested retail price will be $89.99.

Agricola was the seventh best-selling board game in Spring, 2013, according to ICv2’s analysis (see "Top 10 Board Games--Spring 2013").
