Harvey Weinstein has sued New Line and Warner Bros. for $75 million, charging that the case is about “greed and ingratitude,” according to Variety. The dispute was headed to arbitration (see "'Hobbit' Movie Fight Goes to Arbitration"), but has now moved to court.
The basic elements of the case are simple. The Weinstein brothers argue that Warner Bros. owes them profits from all three Hobbit pictures; Warners says it only owes them for one. Warners calls the Weinstein brothers’ deal to sell them Hobbit movie rights one of the "great blunders in movie history," and says they’ve been paid all they’re owed.
