The live-action film version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest is getting a rewrite, according to a recent interview with Peter Segal, who is attached to direct.

"I would love to make that my next movie," Segal told ComingSoon.net.  “We just hired a writer to do another pass. We already have a very good script. Then we go through budgeting hell and trying to get it into shape.”

A well-thought-of script, presumably the one currently getting a polish, was penned by Dan Mazeau back in 2009 (see "Report: 'Jonny Quest' Scribe To Write 'Flash'").  Last year, Mazeau said the film was seeking a star (see "'Bleach' Will Be 'Respectful to the Property'").

Some tries for a star have hit dead ends.  Zac Efron was rumored to be in the running for the title role back in 2009 (see "Confessions of a Comic Book Guy--Go Ask The Amish") as a somewhat-older Jonny (the original cartoon character was 11), but he’s 26 now.  There were also rumors that Dwayne Johnson was being considered for the Race Bannon bodyguard character.
