The Motor City Comic Con drew around 15,000 fans last weekend, according to an article in the Detroit Free Press, but was spurned by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which canceled its auction due to the presence of Playboy models on the show floor. The article stated that the Association withdrew because it didn't want to offend donors or clients. Convention coordinator Gary Bishop was quoted in the article as saying that, 'We have Playboy playmates. That's a part of pop culture. We are a pop culture convention.' Bishop also pointed out that the show was not just for kids, and that children were steered from the booths with the Playboy models. The article over-all had a positive tone, and Bishop's responses blunted comments on the models by the Association spokesperson and an attending parent. The Motor City Comic Con is a long-standing Midwest show, and is one of the largest comic conventions in the country.
