Gale Force Nine has acquired licenses to produce games based on three TV properties, Family Guy, Homeland, and Black Sails, the company announced at Toy Fair.
A series of three games is planned for Family Guy, according to Gale Force Nine CEO John Kovaleski, with the first in late 2014 or later. The games will be different from the company’s previous releases, with one or fewer big box games. "We want things that are strange, a little risqué," Kovaleski said. "We’re definitely going to play with the IP as much as we can and take it to the edges. Think Quagmire pick-up game. Think spew. There’re so many puke episodes it’s hilarious."
Gale Force Nine hopes to have the board game based on Homeland, the award-winning political thriller series on Showtime, ready for release in September, in time for the premiere of the show’s fourth season. The game will be GF9’s first co-op game, with players taking the role of CIA analysts who must work together to stop a big terrorist event. However, each player has a hidden agenda: a player may be a fierce patriot, or have political aspirations, or they may even be a hidden terrorist. Kovaleski said that while the characters of the show will be part of the game, players will not take their roles. Final MSRP has not been set, but will be $50 or less.
The game based on the new Starz pirate show Black Sails will likely launch with the beginning of season two in January 2015. Spartacus, Gale Force Nine’s first big hit (see "'Spartacus' Board Game"), was also a Starz series, but Black Sails looks like it will be bigger; it was Starz’ best-rated series ever at launch.
