ABC has placed a series order for Marvel’s Agent Carter for the 2014/15 season, according to Variety, starring Hayley Atwell. Atwell played the role in Captain America: The First Avenger, and also starred in a brief video short that was distributed with the home video release of Iron Man 3. That short set up the upcoming series, by focusing on her life as she starts a new career as a secret agent after the disappearance of Captain America. That’s similar to the way Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was introduced, as a short on The Avengers DVD (see "An 'Agent Carter' TV Series from Marvel?" for the video short).
ABC also renewed Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season.
If you’re keeping score at home on comic-based prime time TV shows, after Thursday’s announcements, it’s DC in the lead with five (see "'Constantine' to Series"), and Marvel trailing with two (and Image Comics with one big one, albeit on a channel that is in fewer homes than the Marvel and DC shows).
And with a total of eight comic-based primetime shows on TV, the comics medium will be getting exposure far beyond what it’s ever had at any time in the past.
