Even though its English-language version of the hit Japanese card game Machi Koro isn’t planned to release until July (see "Hit Japanese Game 'Machi Koro' Due Here in July"), publisher IDW Games has released details of a planned expansion for the game. Machi Koro: The Harbor Expansion is expected to be in stores in time for the Christmas season.
The Harbor Expansion adds ten new "establishments," a new starting establishment, and two new landmarks to the game, for a total of 82 new cards. More variability of play is introduced by a change in the game set up rules: only ten of the total assortment of establishments will be available for purchase. In addition, the expansion includes rules for playing the game with five players.
In the announcement, IDW Director of Business Development Jerry Bennington was quoted, saying, "Machi Koro has been a focal point for IDW Games. There’s been nothing but positive response regarding us bringing the game to the U.S. and we hope this expansion announcement shows our commitment to supporting Machi Koro with everything we can do."
IDW Games used a promo-card exclusive to promote the game through the hobby market. For details, see "'Machi Koro' Hobby Exclusive Pre-Order Card."
