Ares Games and Gremlin Project launched a new Kickstarter program yesterday to fund two new expansions for their cooperative sci-fi boardgame Galaxy Defenders.  Both projects are expected to go to press early in 2015 and should be in hobby distribution by March.  The Kickstarter program includes a “retailer only” backer package to help promote the game into the hobby distribution chain.

In Galaxy Defenders, the players must work together to thwart an alien invasion of the Earth.  The two new expansions broaden the storyline to include the aftermath of the Earth’s victory:  Operation Strikeback chronicles the "Agency" attack on the alien’s moon base, while Extinction Protocol targets the alien’s home planet.

Like the original game, the expansions are cooperative challenges for the players, presenting them with new enemies, weapons, and tactics.  Each boxed set includes more than 20 plastic figures, game boards, cards, and tokens.  Both expansions require the base game to play, but can be played separately from each other.

Operation Strikeback will have a suggested retail price of $75.  Extinction Protocol will be $85.

The base game released last November (see "Ares' 'Galaxy Defenders' and Expansion").
