Paramount is moving forward with the third G.I. Joe film in the modern franchise, planning for a 2016 release, according to Variety. Dwayne Johnson, whose new character was a big part of the success of the 2013 release (see "'The Rock' Saves 'G.I. Joe'"), is expected to return as Roadblock, as are other stars including Adrienne Palicki.
Paramount has hired Jonathan Lemkin (Shooter, Lethal Weapon 4) to write the script, which is expected to focus on Roadblock.
The new G.I. Joe feature will have to go into production in the second quarter of 2015 to make its planned 2016 release date.
