The NBC comic book drama Constantine has taken an unexpected turn, with actress Lucy Griffiths exiting the show and another familiar Helblazer character taking her place, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
True Blood alum Griffiths was cast in the role of Liv, the series female lead (see "'Constantine Cast Assembled"). NBC will not recast the role, but will add the character Zed, a former love interest of the title character from the comic series who has teamed with the occult master on several occasions. The role has not yet been cast.
Zed will appear during an early episode of the show, as the first of several Hellblazer characters planned for the adaptation, which will also include members of the paranormal DC Comic universe as well (see "Doctor Fate in 'Constantine?'").
The show will air on NBC beginning on October 24th.
