Fox has released a "movie-style" trailer for Gotham, the DC Comics-based Batman prequel series that debuts on the Fox network on September 22nd.  Fittingly the trailer begins with the murders of Bruce Wayne’s parents, which is handled elliptically with a strand of pearls from a broken necklace bouncing off the pavement.  From this preview it is obvious that Gotham will be a dark, moody, wet asphalt noir crime drama leavened with occasional black humor of the type that is evident in the trailer’s last scene.

One of the chief pleasures of Gotham will be identifying and enjoying the early criminal careers of the vast gallery of Bat villains that the series will showcase.  So far it’s Robin Lord Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot (aka "The Penguin") who steals the show, but it’s still early days and the series keeps loading up on new Bat villains (see "'Gotham Will Feature Two More Classic Bat Villains").
