Calliope Games plans to release two new versions of its very popular board game Tsuro during 2015.  Cassidy Werner of Calliope Games gave ICv2 some details at the recent Gen Con game convention.

Calliope is planning a deluxe version of the Tsuro board game for a Gen Con release.  Werner described the high-quality components Calliope intends to use.  "We’re looking at a raw silk covered board, dragon miniatures in a teak box, and synthetic stones for the tiles," she said.  The retail price of the deluxe game is expected to be around $350.

An app version of Tsuro is planned for release earlier in 2015.  "It will be released early next year to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Tsuro," Werner said.  "It’s developed by Thunderbox Entertainment for IOS and Android.  What we tried to do here is recreate the tactile experience of playing the game on a tablet or mobile device.  So, we’ll have multi-player functionality, both on the same tablet and online, eventually.  Eventually, rules variations."

The app will be available for purchase through the normal channels and will feature three-dimensional graphics for the game pieces, animations, and sound effects.  The game can be played against other players or the app’s built-in AI opponents.

Calliope released a sea-faring version of the game in 2012 (see "'Tsuro of the Seas'"). Tsuro was also a recipient of the 'Tabletop Bump' when it was featured early in the web show’s first season (see "The 'TableTop' Bump").
