Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new miniseries that will chronicle the death of Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica series continuity, launching in December.

The series will be written by Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, The Legion), with art by Dietrich Smith (Army of Darkness, Battlestar Galactica), and covers by Smith, Livio Ramondelli, Mike Mayhew, and a subscription variant by Ardian Syaf.

Captain Apollo was the central character of the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series, but after it ended in 1979, Apollo did not return for the sequel series Galactica 1980, which was set several years in the future.  It was implied in the dialog that the hero starfighter pilot had died in the intervening years, but his fate was never overtly detailed.  This series will now fill in those gaps.

Ramondelli cover
Dynamite has been publishing Battlestar Galactica comics since 2006, focusing on each of the three TV series as well as reimagining the BSG universe in Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880 (see "'Battlestar Galactica' Goes Clockwork") and Li’l Battlestar Galactica (see "Dynamite Announces 5-Issue All-Ages Series").

There has been no news on the BSG movie front since the April announcement of script writer Jack Paglen for the reboot (see "Universal Starts Over on 'BSG'").
