Cryptozoic Entertainment has released new details about its upcoming NHL Power Play Team-Building Card Game.  The company plans to release three card sets during each NHL Hockey season, with the first base set scheduled for October 1st.

In this deck-building-style card game, players compete to assemble the ultimate NHL Hockey team by drafting attackers, defenders, and maneuvers.  Points are then scored by using the drafted players to "beat" the opponent’s goalie and defenders.

The game cards feature action photographs of more than 100 players from all thirty NHL teams.  The game can be played one-on-one or with up to four players, and is designed to play in about 45 minutes.

The stand-alone base game will include more than 200 cards and six over-sized "Captain" cards.  The first expansion is planned for January, around the time of the NHL All-Stars Game, while the second is planned for April, at the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The game was produced in partnership with the NHL and NHLPA.  In the announcement, Director of Licensing and Associate Counsel for the NHLPA Adam Larry said, "The NHLPA is very excited to partner with Cryptozoic on the release of the Power Play deck building game.  Having played the game, I know hockey fans and card gamers alike are in store for hours of fun."

The NHL Power Play Team-Building Card Game was one of a number of projects announced by Cryptozoic at this year’s New York Toy Fair (see "'Walking Dead,' 'Archer,' 'Portal,' 'NHL' and 'Sleepy Hollow' from Cryptozoic").
