The Syfy cable network has acquired the rights to the pulp-infused Five Ghosts comic book series by Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham. Syfy plans to create a TV series from the Five Ghosts comic, which follows the adventures of a 1930s-era treasure hunter who is possessed by five literary ghosts including Merlin, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Musashi, and Dracula.
Universal Cable Productions will be producing the new series along with publishing and production company Black Mask Studios, founded by Steve Niles, Mark Pizzolo, and musician/entrepreneur Brett Gurewitz (see "Black Mask Studios"), which acquired the rights to Five Ghosts in late 2013 and has been developing the property for a potential TV series.
Five Ghosts was originally funded as a five issue miniseries by a Kickstarter promotion in 2012 and later picked up by Image Comics, where it became a regular ongoing comic series after the release of the first Five Ghosts collection in September of 2013.
