Marvel filed a $10 million lawsuit against co-venturer/litigant Sony Corp. last Friday, alleging that Sony Electronics has not licensed Spider-Man for its own consumer electronic products, and has also blocked any efforts to license Spider-Man to other companies.  According to Variety, Marvel has charged that this strategy 'stems from Sony Electronics' desire to protect its own competitive position and its inflated retail pricing structure.'

Marvel's other ($50 million) suit against Sony has been referred to a retired judge to hear the case and make a ruling (see 'Judge Jolts Marvel').  Marvel's opening of a second litigation track will increase Sony's expenses and exposure and will increase pressure for a settlement.
