Several developments for upcoming comic book movie adaptations surfaced over the holiday weekend, and we collect them here.

David S. Goyer recently talked with Deadline about plans for his film and TV production company Phantom Four, which included an  update on Sandman, which when we last heard about in February, had just gotten a new writer (see “Geek Movie Round-Up”).  Jack Thorne’s script is in Warner Bros. hands, Neil Gaiman is executive producing, and things are moving in a positive direction, according to Goyer.  “I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team,” Goyer said in the interview. “We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we’re moving forward, knock on wood.”

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad will begin filming in Toronto in a few months, according to Hollywood Reporter.   The film now has a working title of Bravo 14, and is booked at Pinewood Toronto Studios in February for pre-production, with filming set from mid-April through September.  It was previously known that Margot Robbie was in talks to star as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto was being considered for the Joker role (see “ Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn”), but the article says Jai Courtney and Tom Hardy are also in final talks for roles as well.  The movie will release on August 5, 2016.

U.K.’s Daily Mail is reporting that stars of Avengers: Age of Ultron will be returning to London for additional shooting for two weeks in January.  Chris Hemsworth , Robert Downey Jr , Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany (The Vision), Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Hiddleston have been asked to clear their schedules and  “make themselves available” during that time period for additional scenes.  The report also said that Avengers 3 and 4 will shoot back-to-back next year, which would be early, if true.

The plot synopsis for 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot has been posted on RottenTomatoes

“A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways.  Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.”

Presumably, that is in reference to the re-imagined Dr. Doom, who is, according to the latest info, a computer programmer (see “Marvel Movie Licensees Rumor Round-up”).
