A four-disk box set from Rhino Home Video, which includes the first twelve episodes of the classic cartoon series Battle of the Planets, is set to ship to retail on September 9.  The BOTP Box Set is available in a regular version (srp $59.95) and a special limited edition version (of 15,000, srp $69.95), which comes with a special Jason action figure.

The original Battle of the Planets cartoon series was based on the Japanese science fiction anime series Gatchaman.  The American producers added some comic relief and excised some violent scenes in order to make Battle of the Planets 'suitable' for American TV audiences.  In the past year Battle of the Planets has been revived as a successful comic book series from Top Cow (see 'Battle of the Planets #1 Sells Out'), and there is talk that a new version of the animated series may be coming back to American television (see 'Battle Of The Planets Returning To TV').  Diamond Select has also produced a series of BOTP action figures (see 'Battle Of The Planets Series 1').
