Variety has reported that Dimension Films has picked up the option to Steve Niles' IDW comic series Wake The Dead just 'a month after discovering it at Comic-Con.'   Wake The Dead is horror maestro Steve Niles' version of Mary Shelley's quintessential saga of human overreaching, retold in a five-part mini-series that includes elements from every version of Frankenstein plus some major new twists (see 'New Steve Niles Horror Series: Wake The Dead').  Wake The Dead is actually the third Steve Niles comic series that has been optioned by a Hollywood Studio.  MGM optioned Niles' Dark Horse series Criminal Macabre (see 'MGM Picks Up Dark Horse Comic Series'), while Sony acquired the rights to Niles' first IDW title, 30 Days Of Night, even before publication.  After it was announced that Sony had acquired 30 Days Of Night for Sam Raimi to produce (see '30 Days Of Night Optioned'), the 30 Days Of Night comic received a raft of reorders and then quickly sold out the first issue.  Wake the Dead, which launches in September, is in the similar position of being optioned by Hollywood even before the first issue hits the streets.

Dimension Film's agreement with Niles also gives the studio the first crack at Niles' zombie series, Remains, which is slated for spring of 2004 (see 'Another New Steve Niles Horror Series').
