Tokyopop has added information about another new manga series to its Website.  Battle Vixens, which appeared in Japan as Ikki Tosen, will have its American debut next April.  Created by Yuji Shiozaki and first published in Gum Comics, Battle Vixens chronicles the adventures of the well-endowed (physically, if not mentally) Hakufu Sonsaku.  Born in the countryside Hakufu is possessed, thanks to an ancient jewel, with the spirit of one of the warriors, who tried and failed to unite China during the Three Kingdoms era.  The owners of the jewels are known as Toushi and have an insatiable desire for battle. As soon as Hakufu's aggressive tendencies appear, her mother ships her off to Tokyo, where she can train with other Toushi and fight to her heart's content.

Judging by the cover (as Bo Diddley warns us we shouldn't), Battle Vixens, which inspired the creation of a recent anime series in Japan, appears to be as much about 'fan service' as it is about 'female empowerment,' but Tokyopop has done well with titles such as Real Bout High School, which feature fighting female protagonists and appeal to readers of both genders.
