IDW, which published the movie adaptation of Sony Pictures' Underworld, has secured a license to produce a 'prequel' mini-series detailing previous clash on the plains of Africa between the Vampires and Lycans (werewolves).  Danny McBride, one of Underworld's screenwriters is co-plotting the new mini-series along with Kris Oprisko, who wrote IDW's Underworld movie adaptation.  Nick Postic and Nick Marinkovich, who provided the art for the adaptation, will reprise their roles on the new 3-issue mini-series.  The first 32-page, full color issue of the 3-issue Underworld: Red in Tooth and Claw mini-series will ship in February with a cover price of $3.99.

Meanwhile White Wolf and Nancy Collins suit against Sony (see 'White Wolf & Nancy Collins Sue Sony') alleging that characters, themes and settings of the Underworld film were based on White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse has not yet resulted in a formal ruling.  Sony has announced a sequel to the first Underworld film (see 'Underworld Sequel Gets Green Light'), and the new prequel mini-series from IDW indicates that Sony is continuing to license the property aggressively.
