In an interview posted on the DVD Fanatic Website, Simpsons producer Mike Reiss confirmed that a feature length Simpsons film is in the works with a possible release date in the summer of 2006.  Reiss told DVD Fanatic that he and fellow Simpsons producer Al Jean and five veteran Simpsons writers were working on the project.  According to Reiss, the producers of the show have wanted to create a feature film since season 2 -- 'It's been 13 years of wanting to do The Simpsons Movie.  Finally Fox said 'Let's just do it.'  We never had the greatest idea that was compelling, but Fox said, 'Maybe if we start paying you, you'll get inspired.'  And sure enough it worked! We got a very good and interesting idea and it's different from the show.'

While Reiss wouldn't divulge any plot secrets, he did indicate that the project was on track for a 2006 debut, either in the summer or later in the year at holiday time.
