Dirk Deppey, who edits The Comics Journal weblog Journalista, has been named the new editor of The Comics Journal, the long-running comics and graphic arts magazine published by Fantagraphics.  Deppey announced the firing of current Comics Journal editor, Milo George on Friday in Journalista.  According to Deppey, George was terminated because of 'professional and interpersonal differences with management.'

With its strong, often controversial opinions, and an even stronger commitment to the artistic potential of the comic book medium, The Comics Journal is the most serious magazine about comics published in America.  Judging by his performance on Journalista, Deppey should make an excellent editor, though he will have to put the Journalista site on hold 'for at least a month,' which is too bad since the site serves a sort of clearinghouse for both the online comic press and the considerable number of comics-obsessed bloggers.
