Hellboy star Ron Perlman appeared on Fox's The Best Damn Sports Show Period and announced that Hellboy 2 has been given the go ahead. No doubt the success of the current Hellboy film this past weekend (see 'Hellboy's #1!') helped in making the decision to film a sequel, which he said will also depend on a second good script from director/screenwriter Guillermo del Toro.
Perelman also paid tribute to the comic connection in the interview. When asked how important it was for the film to 'please the fans of the comic,' Perelman responded that for director del Toro, it was 'of paramount importance.' He said del Toro was 'obsessed' with making sure that the fans knew that he was creating 'an homage to the world of Mike Mignola.'
This continuing high profile for Hellboy and the strong connection to its source material can only mean good things for long-term sales for pop culture retailers.
