Variety is reporting that DodgeBall star Vince Vaughn is in line to star in the live-action adaptation of the vintage anime series Speed Racer.  Vaughn will portray Speed Racer's long-lost, but protective older brother Racer X.  Warner Bros. has had trouble getting the Speed Racer project out of 'development hell.'  At one point Johnny Depp was set to star in the title role, but the studio balked at the projected cost of the Depp version which Julien Temple was set to direct. 

For pop culture retailers a good Speed Racer live action film could help revive interest in the property -- there are two excellent Speed Racer DVDs available from Artisan and the anime series is currently running on the Speed Channel.
