Viz LLC. has announced that the American theatrical premier of the first InuYasha movie, InuYasha: Affections Touching Across Time, will take place Friday, July 23rd at the 2004 Comic Con in San Diego.  The film was originally released in Japan in December of 2001, where it received considerable critical acclaim.

Viz plans to offer free screenings in the U.S. and Canada in eight major cities including Baltimore, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Philadelphia, New York and Toronto.  Viz will announce the specific dates and theaters in San Diego.

Although early reports had the Cartoon Network broadcasting the first InuYasha movie in September, the TV debut of the film has now been moved back to the spring of 2005.

Viz will release the DVD edition InuYasha: Affections Touching Across Time on September 7 (SRP $24.98), along with a new DVD boxed set containing the first 27 episodes of the InuYasha TV series (SRP $99.98).  The InuYasha TV anime has been a solid performer during its various stints on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.  The most recent DVD collection of the TV anime, InuYasha Vol. #18: The Demon Within, was the best-selling anime home video release on the Nielsen VideoScan list for the week ending June 1, 2004.  The InuYasha manga series created by Rumiko Takahashi and also published by Viz remains one of the most popular manga series in both bookstores and comic shops.
